The Ancient Egyptians believed that when a person died they made a journey to the afterlife. They believed that in order to live in the afterlife their body had to be preserved. A preserved body is called a mummy. If not preserved the body would decompose. So in order to prevent this ancient Egyptians created the mummification process. This process involved embalming the body and wrapping it in linen.
